Entertaiment is a broad genre of media that encompasses a wide range of themes, images and structures. It has a remarkable ability to cross over media and can appear in unexpected forms. It is a force that can bring joy and stimulate learning, but it also has the potential to have negative impacts when unregulated. Entertainment derives from the Latin intertenere, or “to hold inside.” Its Indo-European root is ten, which means to stretch or expand. The word entertain may be pronounced differently from region to region.
